Soul Encounter Vision Quest, June 2017

June 9-17, 2017

The birds have vanished in the sky and, now, the last cloud drains way.  We sit together, the mountain and I, until only the mountain remains”—Li Po

It is never too late to hear your wild soul song.

Join us.  Maybe  you need time to reflect on an elusive search for your life’s purpose or partner.  Maybe you seek clarity as you move through a huge life transition. Maybe you seek to heal existing relationships or to break through barriers that hold you back.  Maybe you aspire to expand yourself or hope to better love yourself.  Join us.

Join your soul brothers and soul sisters for a truly powerful week of journeying deep into the mysteries of the wilds: the wild forest of Grass Mountain and the wild capacity for love and wisdom within yourself.  Here at Spirit Hollow, we will create a safe circle of support for you  as you connect with your deepest longings about your life and with your ability to love and as you break down the barriers to love, confronting your fears and wounds to encounter your soul in its purest, most exposed state.

Through intention setting, deep council work , simple art and writing exercises, basic yogic breathing and asanas, meditation, shamanic journeying, wandering in the forest, fire ceremony and an initiatory sweat lodge, you will prepare for an encounter with your soul on a three-day vision quest alone on the mountain, “crying for a vision.”

With nature as your mirror, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to really dive into your soul, your psyche, your wounds and your gifts and to mine them for the jewels that are your truest essence and most brilliant light.

After questing, you will be received back into the circle as the Sacred Being you are and, in council, we will lovingly unravel your experience on the mountain to help you see patterns and meaning and to work with you to find tools with which to manifest your vision in your life.

Everything you need to know, everything you need to transform, everything you need to embrace is within you.  Your questing time is your gift to yourself–a time to reconnect with your Beauty, your Divinity, your Love and your Truth.

“The gift you carry for others is not an attempt to save the world but to fully belong to it. It’s not possible to save the world by trying to save it. You need to find what is genuinely yours to offer the world before you can make it a better place. Discovering your unique gift to bring to your community is your greatest opportunity and challenge. The offering of that gift – your true self – is the most you can do to love and serve the world And it is all the world needs.” ~ Bill Plotkin

Enrollment is limited to 8 participants, so please register early. Tuition is on a sliding scale $700-$1100.  Once you register, you will be asked to submit a Letter of Intent (guidelines will be provided) to help you focus your purposes for questing.  Then, you will work with Richard and/or  Tracey via email or phone to begin to hone your questions and intentions for the quest.

At base camp (Spirit Hollow), you can sleep in one of our tent cabins, or your own tent.  An extensive list of gear will be sent to you indicating what to bring for the three-day quest when you register.  You will also receive a list of things to do to prepare physically and emotionally and of a few titles of suggested readings.

Register here. We ask for a $200 deposit to hold your space and begin the journey.

Facilitated by Tracey Forest, MA and Richard Cohen, PhD.

Tracey Forest:

Co-founding Director and Steward of Spirit Hollow, Tracey’s whole life has been dedicated to transforming her own consciousness and assisting others in that pursuit.  A long-time shamanic healer and teacher, as well as a college English teacher and a yoga teacher, she has been training others in core shamanic techniques through the Seeing with the Heart programs at Spirit Hollow for 16 years and doing soul retrievals, clearings and energy healing for private clients, animals and places for almost 25 years.

Tracey deeply believes in the power of nature to heal, teach and connect us as well as the power of the human spirit to open nd guide us to our own sacred essences.  When nature and the human spirit meet, alchemy happens and we become more aware, more in tuned to our true purpose and more respectful of the Earth and all her inhabitants.

Tracey also runs life-enhancing camps at Spirit Hollow every summer for kids and teens and offers Goddess Retreats just for women.  Tracey has done two vision quests herself here on this sacred land that is Grass Mountain and has co-facilitated quests and Women’s Quests here for years.  Tracey knows this land, geographically and spiritually, and knows its strength and wisdom first hand.

Tracey is a graduate of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies Three-Year Program in Advanced Shamanism (under the direction of Michael Harner) and a Certified Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level, having trained with Shiva Rea.  Also, Tracey is a singer-songwriter, whose music reflects her belief in the sacred beauty of all beings.  Currently, to hone her own deep soul offerings to the world, she is engaged in an advanced program (the Yearlong Soulcraft Immersion) with Bill Plotkin and Geneen Marie Haugen of the Animas Valley Institute.

Richard Cohen:

Richard has always been blessed with intelligence, with joyfulness and with a love of creative chaos.  These are not learned traits. And although Richard was a rather difficult handful as a child, he matured into a man whose soul feeds itself a daily meal of exuberance and wonder, passion for wisdom and willingness to embrace Mystery in all her many moods.  Richard has been doubly blessed in that he has been able to make his living by opening his spirit to others.  After earning a PhD in Buddhist Studies, Richard was hired by the University of California, San Diego, where he has spent the last two decades creating a space within which students might open their minds and expand their perspectives on the beauty and complexity of our common humanity.  The University of California is a large corporation that encourages students to place career-building over life-building. Richard is proud of the fact that he has been able to carve out a safe corner of this cold institution for students to discover the raging fire of their authentic selves.

Along side his discipline as a scholar, Richard has also cultivated a wild practice of soul freedom.  In this parallel life, he has circled the globe, spending three years in rural India. He has gone on stage with several circuses, has been a performance artist and  has created multimedia installation art.  He has explored the worlds of energy work and yoga teaching; he, too, has gone to the mountain (albeit in Death Valley) seeking a vision.

Above all, Richard believes that what we want and need is to feel at home in our own lives.  We can hear anything when we also feel ourselves truly heard, seen, respected and valued by our family and community.  Richard has spent his adult life walking the land, crossing oceans, braving faculty meetings, listening deeply and reflecting–in honor and truth–the good he sees all around him.

Tracey and Richard make an amazing support team for your journey into the inner and outer wilderness.
