Psychopomp: Shamanic Practice with the Dying, September 23

9 AM-9PM, Saturday, September 23, 2017

Facilitated by Robert L. Patton

The role of psychopomp  has long been a part of the shaman’s practice.  We forget that this role deals not only with the Disincarnate, but also with the Living, especially at the moments of transition in the progressive stages of Life: birth, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, seniority and death.  Expanded from the initial offering in the Autumn of 2015, this workshop looks at this shamanic role on the Path of Death.
In this day-long workshop, we will explore:
  • Our personal attitudes surrounding Death.
  • Working with the Dying:
    • understanding and bearing witness to the person’s individual experience
    • “Spiritual Pain”
    • ways to help the dying person explore his/her attitudes, questions, concerns and wishes
    • facilitating his/her discussion with family and friends
    • helping her/him plan a memorial
  • The “Aftermath”
    • The grief of those left behind
    • Dealing with held soul parts
  • Closure
    • Releasing held soul parts
    • Finding peace
    • A Rite of Ascension: Building a ceremony of remembrance and release
